A new book of 250 vintage images of West Feliciana, including St. Francisville and Bayou Sara, complete with detailed captions has been released.

“This book is full of history and character,” local author Anne Butler said.

Published by Arcadia Publishing, of South Carolina, as part of the Images of America series, “St. Francisville and West Feliciana Parish” contains museum and private collections of old photographs that have been combined for an across-the-board look at the history and culture of the entire parish.

“Many of these images have never been seen before by the public,” Butler said. “This makes an ideal gift for anyone with an interest in history and most especially the history of West Feliciana.”

Images include notable figures, amazing architecture, old post offices and country stores, a flooded Bayou Sara, early commerce and more, Butler noted.

A first book signing featuring the authors, Butler and Norman Ferachi, will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the West Feliciana Historical Society Museum, 11757 Ferdinand St. in St. Francisville.
