Two Plaquemine residents were killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning on La. 75 southwest of the town, said Trooper First Class Bryan Lee, of Louisiana State Police.
James Henson Jr., 45, and Cynthia Lewis, 33, both were killed when the Ford Explorer that Henson was driving ran off the road on La. 75 south of La. 3066 near Jack Miller’s Landing in Iberville Parish about 10 a.m., Lee said.
Henson lost control of the car in a left-hand turn while speeding, running off the left side of the roadway and overturning before striking a utility pole, the State Police spokesman said.
Both Henson and Lewis, the only passenger in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said.
Neither Henson nor Lewis had been wearing seat belts, and Lee said it was unknown if impairment played a role in the crash. A toxicology sample has been taken from Henson for analysis.
