A private school biology teacher accused of having a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old student was arrested Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Nick Domingue, 27, of Ventress, surrendered and was booked into Pointe Coupee Parish Detention Center on counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and oral sexual battery, said Capt. Steve Juge, a Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Domingue had been teaching a total of about 75 students in his second year at False River Academy when the allegations surfaced about a week ago, Principal Melanie Ezell said.

Ezell said Domingue has since been fired.

“He was a very good teacher,” Ezell said, adding that Domingue had never been disciplined as a teacher before and that the allegations surprised her.

Further details of the accusations are not yet clear.

About 500 students attend False River Academy, Ezell said. The students range from 3-year-olds to 12th-graders, according to it s website.
