A 20-year-old Baton Rouge man was killed on Interstate 10 Friday night when the disabled car he was sitting in was struck from behind by another car, according to a State Police release.

Vaneyawn Francis was sitting in the passenger seat of a 2004 Chevrolet Impala that had broken down in the left lane of I-10 in Iberville Parish, the release says.

The driver, Channing Dalcourt, 25, of Baton Rouge, was standing near the rear of the car when it was hit by another car, driven by Kelsey Funck, 20, of St. Rose, the release says.

Francis was killed in the crash, the release says.

Dalcourt also was hit and suffered non-life threatening injuries, the release says.

The Impala did not have any lights activated as it sat in the left lane of the interstate and Funck couldn’t avoid hitting it, the release says.

Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, the release says.

Dalcourt was cited for simple obstruction of a highway, and no other charges are expected, the release says.
