A 30-year-old man was arrested Monday and could face a count of attempted murder in the stabbing of a 51-year-old woman that is being investigated by the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff said.

Sheriff Brett Stassi said Travis Holmes, 58654 Bayou Road, was arrested by St. Landry Parish deputies Monday afternoon after fleeing the scene of what they believe might have been a domestic dispute.

Authorities believe Holmes may have stabbed the woman in the neck about 2 p.m. Monday near a boat landing at Enterprise Boulevard and Bayou Road in Plaquemine.

Stassi said late Monday his deputies were heading to St. Landry Parish to take Holmes to Iberville Parish where he will be questioned about the incident.

Stassi said the woman was in critical condition and is expected to live. She was transported to a local hospital shortly after the incident.
