PLAQUEMINE — The former Iberville Parish teacher indicted on having sex with several of his students was in court Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to five counts of carnal knowledge and 31 counts of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.
Keavin Keith, 58060 Desobry St., Plaquemine, appeared alongside his attorney Thursday during an arraignment hearing at the Iberville Parish Courthouse, the District Attorney’s Office reported.
Keith, a former teacher at Iberville’s Math, Science and Arts Academy-West campus, now faces a Nov. 10 motion hearing.
Keith, who is free on a $100,000 bail, was arrested in May after a female student told authorities about her sexual relationship with the 30-year-old man and that she conceived his child, a son, when she was 15.
Upon further investigation, police learned that Keith had sexual relationships with at least two more female students. At least one of the victims told authorities that she had engaged in oral sex with Keith in his classroom.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said previously that Keith admitted to having sexual relationships with three students and DNA tests have confirmed that he is the father of the child.
Keith had been an MSA-West teacher since the school opened in 2008. Shortly after his arrest, the Sheriff’s Office reported he was placed on administrative leave without pay.
