Port Allen police on Wednesday arrested a second suspect in a double-shooting that left one man dead and another injured last week.

Port Allen Police Chief Esdron Brown said Ronald Akeel Nolan, 20, was an accomplice of Javonte T. Morgan’s in the planned robbery on Oct. 28 of two Baton Rouge men.

Major Carter, 30, was fatally shot in the back while Ashton Taylor, 25, was wounded when he was shot in the buttocks. Taylor underwent surgery for a broken femur and has since been released from the hospital, Brown said.

Morgan and Nolan arranged to rob Carter and Taylor under the guise of a drug deal on Tracy Porter Street, Brown said.

Morgan, 19, is accused of shooting both Carter and Taylor, while Nolan is accused of striking Taylor on the head with a gun and participating in the robbery.

Morgan and Nolan made off with about $40 after the robbery, Brown said.

Morgan, of Baton Rouge, was arrested not long after the shooting and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery. Nolan, of Port Allen, was booked Wednesday on counts of principal to first-degree murder, principal to attempted first-degree murder and principal to armed robbery, Brown said.
