The West Baton Rouge Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for annual summer day camp and swimming classes to be held in June and July at Williams and Lee Park in Port Allen.

The Port Allen camps are in addition to the department’s other annual summer camps offered in Addis, Erwinville and the Port Allen Community Center.

The half-day summer camp at Williams and Lee Park is open to 30 kids per session, ages 4 to 12.

A variety of activities will be provided for the campers, including enrichment activities, arts and crafts, fun field trips and other activities.

Summer camps dates are:

SESSION 1: June 1-5 and June 8-12

SESSION 2: June 15-19 and June 22-26

SESSION 3: July 6-10 and July 13-17

The registration deadline is May 8 and the fee is $10 per child. The fee includes lunch.

To register for the summer camp visit the West Baton Rouge Recreation Department office in the West Baton Rouge Community Center in Port Allen.

Swimming lessons will also be available to kids age 5 and up by the YMCA, under an agreement with the WBR Recreation Department.

The fee is $10 per child for the swimming classes. Fifteen children will be accepted for each session.

All lessons will be taught at William and Lee Pool in Port Allen.

The swimming lesson sessions are:

SESSION 1: June 2-5 and June 9-12

SESSION 2: June 16-19 and June 22-25

SESSION 3: July 7-10 and July 14-17

Levert-Addis reunion

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the closing of the Levert-Addis School in Addis, the school’s alumni association is hosting a student reunion.

The association has invited all former students to visit, remember and share memories of their time there at a special ceremony May 3.

The reunion is taking place at 2 p.m. at the Addis Civic Center on Harris Avenue.

The Levert-Addis School was open from 1921-1945.

Town hall meeting

State Rep. Regina Barrow has scheduled a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday on the third floor of the Port Allen City Hall in the Council Room.

Barrow will give presentations on the upcoming legislative session, medical insurance and local health care, emergency preparedness, the election process, local scams, food stamps and child-care assistance.

The presentations are scheduled to last about 50 minutes with a question and answer session to follow.
