ST. GABRIEL — U.S. marshals captured a fugitive in Shreveport sought in connection with the Feb. 22 attempted armed robbery of a St. Gabriel grocery store, the St. Gabriel Police Department reported Tuesday.

Wardell Anderson, 35, of Baton Rouge, was arrested and booked Monday into the Caddo Parish Detention Center on one count of attempted armed robbery and two counts of attempted second-degree murder, the department said in a news release.

According to previous reports, Anderson is suspected of entering the St. Gabriel Grocery and Deli with a gun and attempting to rob the store and shoot two employees. Police said Anderson’s gun malfunctioned during the incident.

St. Gabriel police returned Anderson to Iberville Parish Tuesday to face prosecution.
