The Plaquemine Lock Historic Site is asking the public to get into the holiday spirit at 6 p.m. Thursday when the organization hosts “Caroling at the Lock.”

The St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Choir, First Baptist Church Choir, St. Mary Baptist Church Youth Choir and Iberville Math, Science and Arts singers will entertain with Christmas carols.

The event is taking place outside the Gary J. Hebert Memorial Lockhouse, if weather permits.

If the weather is bad, the event will be moved inside the lockhouse, 57730 Main St.

Refreshments, soft drinks and coffee will be served.

The event is free and open to the public.

Christmas with the Arts

The Iberville Math, Science and Arts Academy-west campus is hosting its “Christmas with the Arts” celebration on Dec. 17 at the campus’ Performing Arts Center.

The free event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature stocking races, karaoke, holiday games, cookie decorating, a petting zoo and arts and crafts.

There will be photos with Santa and a tree lighting ceremony at 7 p.m.

Live performances will occur throughout the night.

‘Christmas on the Bayou’

Iberville Parish’s Office of Tourism and Grosse Tete are hosting their annual “Christmas on the Bayou” on Sunday at the parish’s Welcome Center.

There will be a street parade at 1 p.m. followed by an appearance from Santa, a duck race, food and fireworks.

Holiday dinner for seniors

Port Allen will sponsor its second annual Senior Citizen Holiday Dinner at 6 p.m. Dec. 15 at the West Baton Rouge Community Center.

The event is free and open to all senior citizens, but seniors are asked to call City Hall to reserve a spot.

“This event is a way to thank our seniors for all their efforts in the community throughout the year and continue our efforts to unite the community,” Mayor Richard Lee said in a news release.

A full meal with the dessert will be served.

City officials will also light the city’s Christmas tree at the Port Allen Depot at 6 p.m. on Dec. 9.

Toy, clothing giveaway

West Baton Rouge Parish Councilwoman Charlene Gordon, along with several friends, is giving away toys and clothes Saturday to local kids as part of Gordon’s Christmas Extravaganza “Let’s Go Shopping.”

The giveaway is taking place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Port Allen Middle School gymnasium.

Children must be present to receive toys and/or clothing items.

There will also be door prizes and refreshments.

‘Night on Broadway’

The Iberville Community Theatre recently announced its inaugural fundraising event, “Night on Broadway,” on Thursday at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center.

VIP tickets are available for the meet-and-greet with the stars before the celebration begins. General admission and balcony seats also are available.
