NEW ROADS -- A 42-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Sunday night on La. 10 near La. 420, according to a Louisiana State Police news release.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Jimmy Herring, 76, of St. Francisville was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris east on La. 10 when he drove into the intersection at La. 420, the release says.

Herman Weston, Jr. of New Roads walked south across La. 10 in the intersection with La. 420 at the same time and was hit by the Toyota, the release says.

Troopers do not suspect alcohol to have played a factor in this crash but have submitted blood samples of Herring and Weston to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation, the release says.
