A 32-year-old New Roads man died in a single-vehicle accident on La. 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish on Sunday night, State Police reported.

The accident occurred about 8 p.m. and an initial investigation found that Jeremy Gremillion was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry when he failed to negotiate a left curve and ran off the road, State Police reported.

The car overturned several times before coming to rest in a cane field. Gremillion, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office, State Police reported.

Police reported that it is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Gremillion for analysis.
