The public is invited to attend the second annual “Ava and Jacob Saucier Memorial Scholarship Fund Jambalaya and Silent Auction” from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Holy Family Parish Hall in Port Allen.

The Saucier family was devastated in August 2010 when Ava Dawn Saucier, 3, her brother, Jacob Michael Saucier, 2 and their grandparents, Michael and Mitzi Saucier, died in a fire at the grandparents’ home on Belle River.

The family established the “Ava and Jacob Saucier Memorial Scholarship Fund” at Holy Family School in response. The scholarship is intended to give more children an opportunity to experience a Catholic school education.

Centre seeks donations

The Centre for the Arts community art and theater program in New Roads is seeking the public’s help in raising money and supplies to go toward scholarships for young people.

West Baton Rouge Parish residents are invited to support the “Mentoring Minds for the Future” organization made up of parish mothers determined to inspire and motivate parish children.

Horse riding camp

Three ZZZ’s Barn invites campers to register for a Summer Horse Riding Camp from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily from Monday through Aug. 5.

Run for charity

Pointe Coupee Parish residents are invited to the “5K Angel Fun Run Fundraiser” and accompanying co-ed softball tournament to be held Aug. 6 at Fordoche Ball Park in Fordoche.

Registration for the run costs $30 per person and begins at 7:30 a.m. The run begins an hour later. The registration fee includes lunch and drink tickets. Runners and teams of runners are encouraged to wear pink or dress up in their best angel costume. All proceeds will go to parish cancer patients.
