Update, 11 a.m. Tuesday:
State Police on Tuesday identified the victim and a suspect in a Monday shooting in Pointe Coupee Parish that left one man dead.
Mario Celestino, 40, died in the afternoon shooting near Batchelor, police said. A suspect, Mark Gaspard, was booked into Pointe Coupee Parish Jail on a count of manslaughter.
The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office reports a homicide Monday afternoon in upper Pointe Coupee Parish near Batchelor the but officials have very little details about what happened.
Louisiana State Police have reported that one person is dead.
A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said State Police would likely be handling the investigation.
“There was a deputy on the scene,” Capt. Steve Juge said. “Although he was not involved in the shooting, he was there when it happened.”
