The West Baton Rouge Museum is set to kick off “SugarFest,” its 16th annual celebration of sugar-making in Louisiana

The free festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the museum.

It offers sugar-making demonstrations, musical acts crafts, hay wagon rides, a cake walk, food from local restaurants and demonstrations by Civil War re-enactors.

Stomp out bullying

Parents and students will unite for an anti-bullying event, “Rally to Delete Digital Drama,” to be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Math, Science and Arts Academy-West in Plaquemine.

Representatives of the state Attorney General’s Office will discuss Internet safety with students and parents. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue shirts to promote the anti-bullying message.

A funeral for the lock

Come out and join friends of the Plaquemine Lock for “The Last Boat Goes Through” program being held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in commemoration of Plaquemine Lock’s 1961 closure.

The program will include guest speakers and a jazz funeral performed by the Math, Science and Arts Academy-West and Plaquemine High School bands. The public is invited to attend.

The swamp life

Iberville Parish’s Cajun-accented “Swamp Life Expo” is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event is the official kickoff for Louisiana’s month-long “Experience Atchafalaya Days” promotion.

Saturday’s expo, free and open to the public, will be held at the Iberville Visitors Center in Grosse Tete. It includes artwork, food, craftsmanship, guest speakers and music. Call (225) 687-5198 for more information.

Calling all artists

The Iberville Parish Library is hosting its 41st annual Acadian Art Show this month.

Both professional and amateur artists are urged to submit examples of their work between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the J. Allan Nadler Building, 24605 J. Gerald Berret Blvd., in Plaquemine.

Entries will be displayed at the library between Oct. 8 and Oct. 15, with a public reception scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 in the library’s meeting room.

Strawberry plant sale

The West Baton Rouge Parish Extension Office is taking orders for strawberry plants through Oct. 12.

The plants, sold in bundles of 50 for $15 each, will be available for pickup the week of Oct. 17.
