The public is invited to attend the West Baton Rouge Museum’s reception at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, to honor emergency responders from the greater Baton Rouge area.

A brief program with remarks from Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler and a presentation by a U.S. Army color guard will be followed by a screening of the 2006 film, “World Trade Center.”

Visitors are invited also to view the museum’s “Cathartic Art: Remembering September 11th,” exhibit featuring artwork inspired by the terrorist attacks.

A visit from Mrs. Jindal

Louisiana’s first lady, Supriya Jindal, is scheduled to be in Port Allen on Friday to tour Holy Family School.

The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana Children donated two Promethean interactive whiteboards and two laptops to the school while also assisting with training.

Dow Chemical Co. representatives will be on hand for Jindal’s visit because the school was able to buy computers through the DowGives grant program.

A joint business expo

The public is invited to come out and network with members of the business community from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center during the Iberville/West Baton Rouge Business Expo.

A night of music

The public is invited to join the Julien Poydras Museum and Arts Council for “Pointe Coupee Lagniappe,” a musical showcase featuring four performers with ties to Pointe Coupee Parish.

Vocalists Ebony Benton, a graduate of Pointe Coupee Central High School, and Jamie Leonard, a Catholic High of Pointe Coupee alumnus, will join Jose Coloma and Yova Slessarera on the stage.

Input sought for school

Representatives of Sankofa Academy, a newly proposed charter school for the northern Iberville area, are seeking community input and people willing to serve on the charter’s school board.
