The Iberville Parish School System holds registration for 3- and 4-year-olds for Iberville Elementary, Dorseyville Elementary and Crescent Elementary on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the School Board’s Media Center at the Central Office.

According to 2014-15 guidelines, pre-K students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30 to register. Head Start students must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 30.

Parents need to bring their child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, updated immunization card, proof of income and two proofs of residency.

All income levels are encouraged to apply.

Registration for East Iberville and North Iberville was held on Monday and Tuesday, so parents in those areas should call the school district for availability.

Museum gets new curator

The West Baton Rouge Museum has a new curator of collections, the museum announced Tuesday.

Angélique Bergeron began her duties this month. She’s responsible for collections management and the museum’s exhibitions program.

Bergeron received her master’s degree and doctorate from LSU in French studies in 2006 and 2011, respectively.

Prior to joining the museum staff, she was the executive director at the Pointe Coupee Historical Society.

New Roads boat parade

The 32nd annual Fourth of July Boat Parade on False River will take place Saturday and be immediately followed by New Roads’ annual River Rhythms Music Festival.

The theme of this year’s parade will be “Made in America.”

Decorated boats will be judged as they pass the judges stand at Morrison Parkway, and trophies will be awarded when boats the return.

The city will award trophies in the following categories: Best Decorated Paddle Board, Most Patriotic Paddle Board, Best Decorated Party Barge, Most Patriotic Party Barge, Mayor’s Trophy, Founder’s Trophy, Shoulda Gotta Trophy and Best Decorated Small Craft.

The paddle craft parade, featuring canoes, kayaks and paddle boats, will start at 2:30 p.m. at Morrison Parkway, between Satterfield’s Restaurant and Morel’s Restaurant.

The boat parade rolls at 3 p.m. with the city’s River Rhythms Festival kicking off at approximately 4 p.m.

Barbecue fundraiser tickets

The Kiwanis of Pointe Coupee hosts its annual Winner, Winner, Bar-B-Q Chicken Dinner on July 20 at the St. Mary Kiwanis Park, across from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in New Roads.

The organization will be serving dinners from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. for $8 per plate.

Each dinner will consist of chicken, baked beans, coleslaw and a roll.

Dinner tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanis member.
