A motorist led a State Police trooper on a high-speed chase through Port Allen on Thursday, but why the man was trying to flee from police is still unknown, according to Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer.

Sandifer said a trooper was attempting to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation about 10:45 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 10 near the Lobdell exit but the driver refused to pull over.

Instead, Sandifer said, the driver fled and took the La. 1 exit, crashing his car on La. 1 South near the Wal-Mart store.

Sandifer said the driver tried to flee on foot after the crash but troopers were able to take into custody both him and later a passenger who was in the vehicle.

There were no injuries but the matter is still under investigation, Sandifer said.
