PLAQUEMINE — A 60-year-old pedestrian struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning has died, according to Louisiana State Police.

Lionel Asberry, of Plaquemine, was running across LA 1 shortly after 9 a.m. when he headed into the path of a southbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Corey Caillet, 34, of Plaquemine, Senior Trooper Bryan Lee said in a news release.

The seriously injured Asberry was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff, Lee said.

Caillet was not injured in the crash, Lee said.

Impairment is not suspected but a toxicology sample will be taken from both Asberry and Caillet for analysis, Lee said.
