The body of 48-year-old Malcolm Perera, of Bayou Pigeon, was recovered from Little Bayou Pigeon about 9:30 a.m. Saturday after a boating incident Friday in Iberville Parish, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Wildlife and Fisheries agents said Perera was driving a boat on Little Bayou Pigeon with another male passenger on board when, according to the passenger, Perera lost control of the vessel, causing both men to be ejected into the water.
The passenger was able to make it to shore and find an abandoned camp, but Perera never resurfaced, an agency spokesman said.
The passenger was able to flag down a passing boat about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
Agents were notified of the incident about 6 a.m. Saturday. With assistance from the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and volunteers, Wildlife and Fisheries searched for Perera and the aluminum boat.
The spokesman said Perera was found near the boat, which had capsized.
Agents said neither boater was wearing personal flotation devices at the time of the incident, which remains under investigation.
