NEW ROADS — A 42-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Sunday night on La. 10 near La. 420, according to a State Police news release.

A preliminary investigation revealed Jimmy Herring, 76, of St. Francisville, was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris east on La. 10 when he drove into the intersection at La. 420, the release says.

Herman Weston Jr., 42, of New Roads, was walking south across La. 10 at the intersection with La. 420 at the same time and was hit by the Toyota, the release says.

Troopers don’t suspect alcohol to have played a factor in the crash but have submitted blood samples from Herring and Weston to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation, the release says.
