Suspect Jerome Anderson Gray

Police named a suspect Friday in the killing of a Plaquemine man who was found dead Thanksgiving Day near Canal and Church streets.

Police believe Jerome Anderson Gray, also known as Dusty, killed Derick Askins and that he may be in the New Orleans area, though his motive is still undetermined, a Plaquemine City Police news release says.

Askins, 57810 True Hope Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene about 8:30 p.m. Thursday after suffering a gunshot wound to his ribs.

Gray, 38, is wanted on a charge of second-degree murder. Police consider him a violent felon who people should assume is armed and dangerous, the release says.

Police urge anyone with information about the shooting or Gray’s whereabouts to call (225) 687-9273.
