A Plaquemine man was killed early Tuesday while walking along La. 405 south of La. 75 in Iberville Parish, a spokesman with the State Police reports.
Jermaine Taylor, 25, was pronounced dead after emergency crews arrived at the scene, south of La. 75, Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee said.
Taylor, wearing all black clothing, was walking southbound in the northbound lane of La. 405 about 5 a.m., Lee said, when he was struck by a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Kane Ourso, also of Plaquemine.
Ourso struck Taylor when he moved into the northbound lane to pass a slow moving vehicle in front of him, Lee said.
State Police do not suspect Ourso was impaired. He was given a chemical breath test for intoxication at the scene, and it registered no detectable signs of alcohol use, Lee said.
