Whiskey Bay — Iberville Parish sheriff’s deputies are responding to a fatal, multiple vehicle wreck in the westbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 on the Whiskey Bay Bridge.
One person was killed and multiple people injured in the wreck that happened just after 5 p.m. involving two 18-wheelers, two passenger vehicles and a motorcycle, said Sheriff’s Maj. Johnny Blanchard.
Due to the total closure I-10W on the Whiskey Bay Bridge at Milepost 126.5, traffic is being detoured off at LA-415 (Port Allen) to US-190 West, according to the State Police. I-10 West remains closed at Whiskey Bay, according to the DOTD Twitter site. Congestion has reached the top of the Mississippi River Bridge.
Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Maj. Johnny Blanchard said two 18-wheelers, two passenger vehicles and a motorcycle are involved in the wreck with at least one possible fatality.
Blanchard said Iberville deputies have requested that West Baton Rouge Parish deputies cut off vehicular access to the interstate at La. 415 and redirect traffic to U.S. 190.
Iberville sheriff’s deputies are in the process of closing off access to I-10 at both the Ramah and Grosse Tete exits, Blanchard said.
Congestion is backed up for 5 miles, according to the DOTD twitter site.
