JENNINGS — Both eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 between Welsh and Jennings were expected to remain closed into the evening Thursday as hazardous materials crews cleaned up two leaking tanker trucks, according to State Police.
Authorities were alerted to the first leak about 10 a.m. — a tanker truck that had pulled onto the shoulder of I-10 eastbound and, for unknown reasons, was leaking nitric acid, said State Police spokesman Trooper Stephen Hammons.
Sometime between the first leak and noon, hazardous materials crews began working a second leak in the eastbound lanes after a car rear-ended a tanker truck carrying the flammable material Cumene, Hammons said.
Hammons said Thursday afternoon that both lanes would remain closed until the completion of the cleanup, which he said was expected to stretch late into the evening.
Detour routes are marked, he said.
