A 16-year-old was shot about 4 p.m. Friday on St. Joseph Street, suffering multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The teen was taken to a local hospital, Capt. Steve Juge said, and authorities were planning to transfer him to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. His status was not known.

As of Friday evening, no one had been arrested in the shooting, but deputies have identified a vehicle of interest.

Juge said witnesses noticed a tan SUV in the area around the time of the shooting, possibly a Yukon or a Tahoe.

Juge declined to comment on specific details of the case, saying it is still early in the investigation. Deputies have not determined a motive for the shooting.
