LIVONIA — An 18-year-old Livonia High School student was arrested Monday after he was caught with a weapon on campus, authorities said.
Capt. Steve Juge, spokesman for the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office, said another student reported seeing a rifle in the truck of Dwayne Johnson to the school's resource officer Monday.
Juge said Johnson admitted to the officer the gun was his and that he had been hog hunting the day before and forgot to take it out of his truck before going to school that day.
Juge said the gun was not loaded.
Johnson, 4509 Fisherman Rd.; Batchelor; was booked into the parish jail on a count of carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon onto school property. He was released Monday evening in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
Juge said there were no confirmed reports Johnson threatened any student with the weapon.
"Sounds like there was a lot of hearsay with this," Juge said Tuesday.
This article was changed on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, to note that the rifle found in the student's truck was not loaded.
