A former Plaquemine police officer was arrested and booked into the Iberville Parish jail Wednesday on two counts of misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Chance Martinez, 18, was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old female when he was 17 years old, a police release said Friday.

The release says the Plaquemine Police Department received the allegations on Tuesday, and after an initial investigation, turned the matter over to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Interim Police Chief Kenny Payne said Friday that Martinez was a senior in high school when it happened — a year before he joined the Plaquemine Police Department.

Payne said Martinez, 55275 Myles Road, White Castle, left the force on the morning of his arrest. He had only worked with the department for three months.
