The Stateline Raiders boys basketball squad began its season by competing in the PrimeTime Sports 2016 Spring Shootout in New Orleans on April 2-3.

The tournament was for boys’ and girls’ teams in third- through 12th-grade.

The Raiders, with players from Zachary and West Feliciana Parish, finished in third place after losing to eventual tournament champion, YGLA from Baton Rouge, 61-50.

However, the team got off to a great start by defeating Streetline Basketball from New Orleans 74-60 and New Orleans Future 60-46, a news release said.

Zachary forward Jadarion Davis led the squad in all three games scoring a total 43 points.

Zachary guard Calvin Adams followed with a three-game total of 40 points, and West Feliciana guard Chad Tillery finished with 33 points.

“The Raiders have consistently improved the past two seasons and can always be counted on to play hard but with a tremendous respect for the game despite their height,” coach Dedric Williams said.

The Raiders will compete in the Youth Basketball of America league tournament in Abita Springs on Saturday followed by the Amateur Athletic Union league tournament in Baton Rouge on May 14.

Additional summer will take the squad to Biloxi, New Orleans and Orlando, Florida.
