Zachary teacher Michelle Powell is the speaker for this year’s Back-to-School Prayer Breakfast, hosted by Zachary’s First Baptist Church from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 8 in the church’s Family Life Center.
The breakfast will focus on praying for and encouraging all teachers, school staff, students and parents as families prepare to start a new school year, a news release said.
“My passion for teaching students both academically and socially has evolved into their spiritual well-being,” said Powell, who has taught in the Zachary school district for the last 12 years and is a member of Galilee Baptist Church. “God is the center of my classroom, and I pray that this shows up in my students’ growth.”
The church has hosted a prayer breakfast for several years. This year, it invites all teachers and school staff to attend. Those who RSVP by July 31 will have the $5 breakfast fee waived.
Everyone who attends the breakfast is asked to bring a donation for the Foundation Assisting Zachary Education, which offers direct support and meets the needs of Zachary schools, students and educators. The breakfast is open to the community. Child care is available for those who register by July 31. For more information and to register, visit fbcz.org/prayer-breakfast.
