Registration has opened, and chili cooks are encouraged to submit their entries for chances to win at the second annual Code Red Chili Cook-off slated for Sept. 26.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Pointe of Americana, 4200 Liberty Road, Zachary, this fundraiser will pit chefs from companies, churches and organizations and youths and adults of all ages — amateur or professional — against one another in preparing their best chili recipes.
A panel of “celebrity” judges will select the Best Chili Champion, and attendees will select the People’s Choice Award. New this year is a youth division designated for cooks 17 and younger.
Prizes include a $250 cash prize to the adult chili champion, a prize package to the youth chili champion and trophies given to the People’s Choice, Best Decorated Booth and Best Team Spirit winners.
Teams are encouraged to dress up and decorate their booths or tents. Judges will select a winner based on creativity, style, theme and use of color.
In addition to sampling chili, the day will feature a craft beer tasting; dunking booth with local coaches, community leaders and teachers; children’s activities, games, an art station and photo booth; concessions with other food and drinks; chances to win cakes, cookies and pies; a raffle drawing for a custom-made rocking chair, set of tires and fishing charter; and music from The Gillis Silo, Zachary teen singer-songwriter Michelle Willis and West Without.
Admission and parking are free, but a $10 wristband will offer attendees an opportunity to taste all chili entries.
All proceeds benefit the LaneRMC Foundation and its many projects, such as cancer treatment services at the Radiation Oncology Center on Lane’s campus in Zachary.
The Code Red Chili Cook-off is presented by Americana, Lane Regional Medical Center and Level Homes. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
All head cooks must preregister; entry fee is $25.
