Zachary High School’s library club, called The LC@ZHS, recently conducted a book drive service project.
A student committee for the club selected Books for Africa as the recipient of the books donated during the drive.
Books for Africa — an organization whose goal is to end book famine — collects, sorts, ships and distributes books to students of all ages in Africa.
Teachers, students and Zachary residents donated books and money that was used to buy books during the library’s book fair in September, hosted by Cavalier House Books in Denham Springs and during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
According to students on the committee, The LC@ZHS knows first-hand how beneficial donations are, having received gift magazine subscriptions and gently used books and magazines from residents.
“We appreciate the generosity of the school’s faculty, staff and student body, as well as Zachary residents for their participation in the book drive and in donating to library resources, which benefit all students at ZHS,” librarian Christina F. Knight said.
