Created with assistance from the Louisiana Department of Economic Development and LSU Agricultural Center, the annual leadership program launched in 2011 by the Zachary Chamber of Commerce is geared toward professionals from throughout the region who wish to enhance their leadership knowledge or to gain leadership skills.
Graduation for this year’s group is set for 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at The Pointe at Americana in Zachary.
The program is open to people living or working in Baker, Baton Rouge, Central, Zachary, and East and West Feliciana and Pointe Coupee parishes.
The program engages emerging leaders and prepares them to meet the future needs of their communities, said Kate MacArthur, executive director of the Zachary Chamber.
“We strive to better develop, inform, offer more resources to and encourage civic responsibility among these leaders who are committed to making communities throughout the North Capital Region better places to live, work and play,” MacArthur said.
Participants meet from March to September to exchange viewpoints and experiences on topics, including leadership styles; regional visits and tours of other communities; state government, which includes a visit to the State Capitol; strategic communication; working together with other communities; and economic development.
“They’re exposed to challenges, opportunities and vital issues affecting the region,” MacArthur said.
Leadership North participants from the Class of 2015 include Liz Aaron, Highlands Bank; Becky Aucoin, Remax First; Tim Corcoran, real estate agent and East Feliciana School Board member; Josh Detre, MedComp Sciences; Elain Ellerbe, Refined by Fire Ministries LLC; Jessica Ellis, Landmark Bank; Clint Gayle, Gayle Battery; Jen Gennaro, Tiger Town Realty; Mike Gennaro, Barndog Mill, LLC; Twila Guerin, city of Zachary; Carter Leak, Bank of St. Francisville; Scott Masterson, city of Zachary; Jennifer Mounts, Regions Bank; Bettsie Norton, West Feliciana Parish; Theresa Payment, Lane Regional Medical Center Foundation; Bruce Pease, Georgia Pacific; Tanya Thigpen, Edward Jones; Shane Toncrey, Anvil Attachments; and Kristi Watson, Ozark Insurance Agency.
