Christopher Hilton, 13, a seventh-grader at Northwestern Middle in Zachary, was recognized recently for his standout performance at the invitation-only John Lucas All-Star Weekend basketball tournament in Spring, Texas, March 4-6.

The tournament showcases teams from around the country and beyond and is open to boys and girls in second through eighth grades. The event also offers a platform to take a team’s skills to the next level.

Hilton, who plays for the Louisiana Future, was ranked first of 12 standout seventh-grade players at the event.

“We’re talking about an athletic 2-guard who is extremely quick on the open court, has a great nose for the ball and makes a living coming up with more than his share of steals and slashing to the basket,” Clark Francis, editor and publisher of Hoop Scoop, said.

Hilton also plays wide receiver on the NMS football team and is a member of the school’s track and basketball teams. In track, he has a personal best of 6 feet in the high jump.

Hilton is the son of Chris and Cindy Hilton of Zachary.
