Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council has launched its summer Laptops for Kids program, in which prekindergarten through high school students can purchase deeply discounted laptop computers.
The program ends Aug. 15.
Laptops cost $90, run Windows 7 and come with a one-year warranty. Students must bring their school ID or current year report card to qualify. Call (225) 379-3577 for details.
Recycled treasures sale
Everyone is invited to shop the Recycled Treasures Sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the St. Isidore Catholic Church/Ott Center, 5657 Thomas Road at Plank Road in Baker.
Clothes, furniture, toys and household items will be featured. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
AgCenters to host cook camp
The Southern University and LSU Agricultural centers are co-hosting the Creating Healthy Enjoyable Foods youth cooking camp for children ages 9 to 11 from June 13-16 and for youths ages 12 to 15 from July 18-21.
Both sessions are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Southern’s Baton Rouge campus in the Pinkie E. Thrift Hall. Only 12 participants will be accepted for each session. Campers must bring a bag lunch and healthy snack daily.
Cost to attend is a $30 money order payable to Southern University AgCenter. Fee should accompany a completed registration form and be mailed to: C.H.E.F., Nutrition Education Program, Southern University AgCenter, P.O. Box 10010, Baton Rouge, LA 70813. The deadline to apply is Monday.
The C.H.E.F. cooking camp teaches basic cooking principles and nutrition education based on the USDA’s “MyPlate” food guidance system and dietary guidelines. Participants will create an entire meal while learning healthy eating and physical activity principles, food preparation, kitchen and food safety, common cooking terms, proper food handling, measuring techniques, critical thinking and team-building skills, and planning and time management.

Library to host movie
The East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s Zachary Branch, 1900 Church St., and the Zachary High Library Club are partnering to host the movie “Divergent” based on the novel of the same name written by Veronica Roth.
Both the book and movie take place in a world where the population is divided into factions by personality types.
The movie is rated PG-13 and will be shown from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for ages 13 and up.
The ZHS Library Club will provide refreshments.
Women in Business luncheon
The Baker Chamber of Commerce, along with Lane Regional Medical Center and Baker Printing, is hosting the second annual Women in Business Luncheon to empower women in area communities from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 16 at Advantage Charter Academy, 14740 Plank Road, Baker.
Tiffany Dickerson, known as “The Mic Chick,” will be the hostess, and Aldreamia Omar is scheduled to be the guest speaker. Door prizes will be awarded.

A pregnancy workshop and Baby Care Basics class, which includes an overview of what to expect during pregnancy, delivery and newborn care in the first weeks of life, is slated for 10 a.m. to noon June 18.
A tour of Baby Lane, the hospital’s labor and delivery unit, is also featured.
The class will be in the Staff Development Classroom at Lane Regional Medical Center, 6300 Main St., Zachary. Registration is required.
