A pastalaya fundraiser will be held Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Zachary City Hall for the families of Landon Blackwell and Luke Allen.

Plates are $7 each and will benefit Zachary student Landon Blackwell, 8, who recently was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. The son of Carl and Charlee Blackwell, he is undergoing treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Proceeds also will go to Luke Allen, a newborn with a heart condition, who is the son of Baton Rouge police officers Kirt and Tamron Allen.

The infant has undergone treatment at the Boston Children’s Hospital.

Students present ‘Rumors’

Zachary High School’s drama students, directed by teacher Jen Masterson, will present Neil Simon’s “Rumors” at 7 p.m. Thursday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the ZHS campus.

According to a synopsis of the play, confusion and miscommunication mount, spinning off into classic farcical hilarity at a 10th anniversary party in New York attended by four couples.

Tickets for this PG-13-rated play are $11 for adults and $7 for students.

Fall Fun Fest planned

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Lagniappe Woman’s Club and the Baton Rouge Garden Club invite everyone to their annual Fall Fun Fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Baton Rouge Garden Center, 7950 Independence Blvd.

Cards, games, raffle drawings, a luncheon tea, bake sale, plant sale and seasonal decorations will be featured.

Battlefield ghost stories

Battlefield ghost stories will be presented in conjunction with Halloween at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson, near Zachary at 236 U.S. 61.

A site ranger will share Civil War burial practices and regale visitors with a cauldron of ghost stories and tales about “things that go bump in the night” that are associated with the Port Hudson battlefield.

Chamber Lunch and Learn

The Zachary Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly Lunch and Learn event beginning with networking from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch and the program from noon to 1 p.m., on Nov. 4 at the Americana YMCA, 4200 Liberty Way.

Guest speakers will be Lexie Andrews and Ed Leachman from LSU’s Stephenson Disaster Management Institute.

The pair will discuss which disasters small businesses are susceptible to, how to put together a plan and tools businesses can use.

Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

Zachary Mayor David Amrhein invites residents to the annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Nov. 6.

This year’s event is themed “Believe & Achieve” and will begin at 6:30 a.m. with a breakfast prepared by the Zachary Fire Department at First Baptist Church in Zachary, 4200 Main St. Cost to attend is $5.

At 7 a.m., the program begins with guest speaker State Treasurer John Neely Kennedy, a Zachary native. Billy Kline will emcee.

Musical performances, Bible readings and prayers by local church leaders are planned.

Local businesses are invited to self-promote by creating personalized centerpieces, one for each of the 45 tables at the event. Themes are limitless, and there is no fee to participate.

Businesses must reclaim their centerpieces at the end of the breakfast or donate them to a nursing home, or a residential or long-term health care facility in the area.

Gleaux Run set to take off

People of all ages, shapes and sizes are invited to participate in the third annual Zachary Gleaux Run set for Friday, Nov. 6, at The Pointe at Americana.

A fun family pre-party begins at 5 p.m., a 1-mile fun run at 6 p.m., followed immediately by a 5K run.

This Zachary Chamber-sponsored event invites everyone to “get gleauxing” by wearing their best glow attire.

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest overall racers in each event and the individual and team wearing the best glow wear. A DJ, glow photo station and food and drinks will be featured.

Proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Zachary Chamber of Commerce and physical education departments at Zachary schools. A portion of funds will go toward building and enhancing walking and biking trails in Zachary.
