Roles are available for children and adults in the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s production of “The Nutcracker — A Tale From the Bayou.”

Open auditions for children ages 8 to 12 and adults will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Dancers’ Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court, Baton Rouge.

Hundreds of children will be selected to fill the roles of lambs, cherubs, mice, cooks, soldiers, angels and party children. Adults can audition for roles as party parents. Audition times are as follows: boys 8 and older, noon to 12:45 p.m.; girls age 8, 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.; girls age 9, 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.; girls age 10, 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and girls 11 to 12, 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Children must be 8 years old by Dec. 31.

Adult auditions will be from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. All dancers should arrive at least 15 minutes before their audition time, and girls should wear a leotard and tights. A $10 audition fee is required per person.

The production incorporates local landmarks and features guest artists, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and more than 300 area children.

“The Nutcracker — A Tale From the Bayou” will be performed at the River Center Theatre at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20.

“?‘The Nutcracker’ can be a wonderful introduction for children into the magical world of dance and theater,” BRBT Artistic Director Molly Buchmann said. “Many of our young dancers come back year after year because they make friends and memories that last a lifetime.”
