Pink Helmet deadline nears

In observance of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Zachary Fire Department is urging businesses and residents to participate in its annual Pink Helmet fundraiser benefiting Women’s Hospital’s breast cancer services.

The deadline to buy one of three helmets is Oct. 23.

Traditional pink helmets are for breast cancer awareness in general, pink camouflaged helmets are for survivors of breast cancer, and pink ribbon helmets are for those who died from breast cancer.

Firefighters will wear the helmets throughout December, and once the month is over, the helmets will be returned to the businesses and residents who participated. All helmets will contain a leather patch with your business’s name and the current year; the name of the survivor and year they beat breast cancer; or the name of the person you are memorializing and the year they died; depending on the helmet you purchase.

To participate, call Gordon Lipscomb at the ZFD at (225) 654-0026 or email glipscomb@zacharyfire.org.

Send news and events for Around Zachary to Stacy Gill at sgill@theadvocate.com by 3 p.m. Fridays or call (225) 993-0066.
