Kenny Havard, of St. Francisville; and back row, State Rep. Dalton Honoré, Zachary Safety Officer Bob Whitaker and East Baton Rouge Metro Councilman Trae Welch.

State Rep. Kenny Havard, of District 62, hosted District 62 Day at the Capitol in the courtyard of the Pentagon Barracks on May 5.

Havard, who was born in Jackson, raised in East Feliciana Parish and lives in St. Francisville, said the event was to showcase what his district — East and West Feliciana parishes and Zachary — has to offer for legislators and their families.

Featured were information about arts, bed and breakfasts, inns, historic sites and events, festivals, music, parks, restaurants, shops, sporting events, wineries and more.

Chambers of commerce from District 62, tourism groups and elected officials such as mayors, parish presidents, aldermen and women, police jurors, city council and school board members were invited.

Feliciana Cellars of Jackson held a wine tasting, and a signature beverage called U.S. 61, concocted by West Feliciana Parish President Kevin Couhig, was served as were samples of cuisine from several St. Francisville area restaurants.

“We just wanted everyone to come check out what District 62 has to offer,” said Diane Womack, Havard’s legislative assistant.

Tents, tables and displays were set up for attendees to browse.

Audrey Faciane, East Feliciana Chamber director, and Kerry Everitt, West Feliciana Chamber director, helped organize the people, places and things showcased at the event, Womack said.
