A back-to-school event hosted by Southeast Community Health Systems, a nonprofit health care organization, was held Saturday at the Zachary High School gym for Baker and Zachary students and their families.

Cedric Parms, a community outreach coordinator for the organization, said a series of back-to-school programs began July 18 in Kentwood and were followed by similar events in Independence, Greensburg, Albany and Zachary on Saturday.

Co-hosts included the Zachary Men’s Club, Sports 4 Life and Baker Wal-Mart. Vouchers for one free school uniform were given to each student who registered, and businesses and organizations handed out free school supplies, book bags, financial education and safety information.

Door prizes, face painting, food, giveaways and dental and health screenings for blood pressure, glucose levels, height and weight were offered to families waiting for the free supplies.
