Zachary Rotary member Terry Gomez took his Rotary oath one step further by promoting literacy to a group of Asian people who were housed in the same apartment complex he lived in during his stay in Houston, according to a news release.

Gomez' wife, Debbie, was undergoing treatment at M.D. Anderson for two months.

During this time, Terry Gomez befriended the group of residents who were eager to learn English. Terry set up a classroom and taught the students English three times per week.

Gomez said he hopes the lessons "will be something that will benefit them during their lifetime."

Since then, Debbie Gomez has been released from M.D. Anderson and is home and cancer free.
