The gardens at Northwestern Elementary School are more colorful this year, thanks to Girl Scout Daisy Troop 10250 in Zachary.

The troop, which includes mostly kindergartners who attend Northwestern Elementary School, decided to work on the garden as a service project, said Troop Leader Brandi Pellissier, a teacher at Copper Mill Elementary.

“They wanted to help their teachers brighten up the garden, so, on weekends, the Daisy scouts and their parents all got together to paint the garden boxes,” Pellissier said. The group also constructed and painted signs with each teacher’s name to put in their respective boxes.

“The girls were so proud of the work they did for their school,” Pellissier said.

The co-troop leader is Gretchen Hurst, a middle school teacher in the West Baton Rouge Parish school system.
