Kindergartners at Northwestern Elementary School in Zachary, as well as some of their teachers, got into the "clown act" on Friday during a visit from the Firestoppers, fire safety clowns from the Zachary Fire Department.

Every October, which is Fire Prevention Month, the fire clowns visit Zachary area schools, teaching children important fire safety and prevention messages, such as: crawl low in smoke; know how and when to dial 911; practice escape plans; stop, drop and roll during smoke or fire; and remember to test smoke detectors.

This year, the Firestoppers include Capt. Ronald Hives as Pyro, Capt. Danny Reifer as Flash and firefighter Stephen Jones as Mayday.

The clowns also perform fire prevention puppet shows for pre-school age children.
