Zachary High Army JROTC rifle team members have competed against eight Baton Rouge area ROTC programs twice this year, dominating on both occasions.
At both competitions, the Bronco rifle team placed first in all three positions — prone, standing and kneeling — as well as finished first overall, according to senior Army JROTC instructor Maj. Leslie Martin Sr., who also coaches the team.
“Team members placed first, second and third in over 95 percent of the categories as individual competitors,” Martin said.
Orin Bordelon placed first overall; Molly Mahan finished in second place, one point behind Bordelon; and first-year shooter Julianna Voiers finished third.
The team competes in the Sporter category of the three-position air rifle competitions and members fire a Daisy Model 887, .177-caliber, CO2-powered pellet rifle issued by the U.S. Army, Martin explained.
Currently, the Bronco rifle team is awaiting final results from the National Army JROTC air rifle match it competed in recently.
