Memorial golf tournament tees off
The annual Mike Morris Scholarship Golf Tournament is slated for Sept. 25 at The Bluffs Golf Resort, 14233 Sunrise Way, in St. Francisville.
Sign-in begins at 10:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided.
All funds raised will go toward a scholarship prize for a graduating senior.
Fees are $400 per team of four or $100 per person. Sponsor a hole for $100. The deadline to sign up to play is Sept. 18.

Public Lands Day planned at Port Hudson
Louisiana’s Office of State Parks is partnering with the National Environmental Education Foundation for National Public Lands Day on Sept. 26.
Visitors to Louisiana state parks and historic sites are encouraged to participate in this annual nationwide event geared toward the appreciation and preservation of local public parks and outdoor recreation.
Entrance fees to all state parks and historic sites will be waived for the day.
At Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson, 236 U.S. 61 near Zachary, a cleanup day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Volunteers and park staff will spend the day cleaning up the 6.5 miles of trails, removing litter and rubbish from the banks of Foster’s Creek. Rubber gloves and trash bags will be provided.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
National Public Lands Day began in 1994 with three federal agencies and 700 volunteers. Last year, 175,000 volunteers worked in more than 2,100 locations in every state.

Garage sale scheduled
The Zachary Lions Club is hosting a benefit garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 2-3 at the service organization’s Lions Den, 4342 High St.
All proceeds will benefit Lions charitable projects, such as providing eyeglasses to people in need and continuing its eyesight prevention program.
