The Zachary bypass is complete now with the opening of Emmie Drive on Oct. 22.
Built to help alleviate traffic during the Main Street/La. 64 road-widening project, the bypass provides motorists with an alternate route.
In January, Montegudo Boulevard and Bob Odom Drive, both named after longtime Zachary residents, opened to drivers.
Branching off Montegudo Boulevard is Bob Odom Drive, which forks south to join Main Street between Raising Cane’s restaurant and Murphy USA gas and convenience store.
Emmie Drive intersects with Bob Odom Drive and connects drivers to the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot.
The roadway was named after Emmie Black Montegudo, the second wife of Adolphus William Montegudo, a fourth-generation Montegudo who farmed the tract of land that the bypass road runs through.
She was a schoolteacher and mother to four of Montegudo’s nine children.
