Eight nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence as outstanding role models through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary were nominated by patients and families, physicians and colleagues for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Lane’s DAISY Award winner and honoree is Courtney Day, LPN.
Day is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Louisiana Technical College. She has been employed at Lane for more than 15 years and is the nurse educator in the staff development department.
Day was Lane’s 2006 Employee of the Year and 2013 STAR Award honoree. She serves on several hospital committees, including the Nursing Shared Governance Council, Fall Prevention, ER Throughput, Electronic Health Records, Surgical Site Reduction and Nurses Week Celebration committees as well as the Nursing Documentation, Chest Pain Accreditation, “Keep the Beat” and Relay for Life teams. She’s also an American Heart Association Basic Life Support instructor.
A native and resident of Zachary, she is married to Wayne Day. They have one son, Morgan.
As Lane’s DAISY Award winner, Day received a certificate proclaiming her an “Extraordinary Nurse,” a DAISY Award pin and a unique hand-carved, serpentine stone sculpture from Zimbabwe called “A Healer’s Touch.”
“I am blessed every day with the opportunity to care for others through nursing,” Day said. “Receiving the DAISY Award is an honor I will cherish forever.”
The DAISY Award was established to celebrate the extraordinary compassion nurses provide their patients and families every day. If you have been the recipient of extraordinary care at Lane, visit lanermc.org and select the DAISY emblem.
