Brenda G. Jackson

Brenda G. Jackson, 59, an Opelousas native and Baker resident, has announced her candidacy for Baker City Council District 5.

Jackson, a Democrat, is a retired East Baton Rouge Parish public schools educator and community volunteer with 26 years of service.

A Baker resident since 1995, she is a graduate of Opelousas High School and Southern University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.

Jackson is a former member of the Chaleur Homeowner Association, Baker High Football Boosters and Baker Band Boosters.

She is a member of Baker Planning and Zoning, Main Street Pilot Club of Baker, Baker Inter Club Council, Baker Heritage Museum and Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Committee.

She is a volunteer with Baker Rotary Club, Baker Chamber of Commerce’s Buffalo Festival, Parkridge Academic Magnet School, First United Methodist Church and Baker Senior Center.

Jackson is the recipient of the 2015 Volunteer of the Year award from the Baker Chamber of Commerce.
