Although most types of crime in Zachary saw only slight increases in 2015, a few trends have emerged during the past five years, according to a report Police Chief David McDavid submitted Tuesday to the Zachary City Council.

Officers responded to 11 rapes in 2015, while just three were reported in 2014 and only one in 2011. At the same time, DWI arrests have decreased by about half — 20 in 2015 compared with 56 in 2011.

Roughly half of the crimes committed in Zachary in 2015 were thefts, which is on par with years past.

McDavid reported no homicides in 2015, which has been the case since 2011, when there was one homicide.

In other business, the council:

Heard from Mayor David Amrhein that the Zachary portion of a project to four-lane Mount Pleasant Road (La. 64) is nearing completion. Both sides of the road should be open in about 20 working days.

Approved a site plan for a 20,000-square-foot medical office building at the Zachary Surgical Center on Main Street off La. 19.

Annexed a lot on Old Scenic Highway (La. 964) that belongs to E.D. Annison into the city limits.

Condemned a pawn shop at 6461 La. 19. The building is not connected to the water supply, its roof is caving in, and there is trash in the yard, officials said.
