Most people know October is the month for breast cancer awareness, but many are unaware October also is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

On Oct. 22, employees from Zachary Mayor David Amrhein’s office, the Zachary Police Department, Clerk of Court and city finance department wore purple, joining the national effort, #PurpleThursday Thunderclap.

By wearing purple on this day, people across the nation pledged to raise awareness, support survivors and take a stand against domestic abuse.

Domestic violence thrives when people are silent, but if everyone takes a stand and works together, it can be stopped, according to the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
